You know the subscription boxes you can find online? Last year, in a bout of research, it took me a little while to find the ultimate box: the cheese Posties. You have all the ingredients posted to you, for a Cheese Toastie. Perfect! I just had to try a box..
The company that makes these has recently re-launched; so, to be quite frank, I was not really sure what to expect. And it was a nice surprise to come home to, on a freezing Friday afternoon in January!
There’s something very simple in the design; not too overbearing, it’s elegant almost, and the branding is clever. Just look at the stamp on the left here-cheese toastie on an atcual stamp!
It’s also very clear, in that the logo has no added extras-just think Apple Inc. This is the company, so no need to be ostentatious at all. It’s sleek, simple, and a rather sophisticated way of marketing themselves.
So far, I haven’t really got any expectations.
Do you want to have a look inside? Of course you do! This was where I was most impressed, in a sort of Mary Poppins-esque moment. Just the sheer amount of stuff that could be nestled inside…
Just look at this beauty of a subscription box! For any cheese lover-and that includes myself-at this stage of the opening of said box, the anticipation is rather great. Gotta give it to the cheese! This is just simply magic, almost, at its finest.
As you can see on the lid, it tells you how to toast, in a very succinct manner. But I also think it’s worth noting that I received two boxes-one sweet, one savoury. For the latter, the contents included. Those marked with an asterisk are included with each box:
- Two slices of bread.
- Blueberry jam.
- Cottage cheese.
- Toasting bag.*
- Instruction book.*
- Top trump.*
So, I just had to make myself the red lecister version from the savoury box..
But I just had to make a cross-branding point; the mix of print and online is genius! There’s the instruction book of course, but there’s also an app, an online diary, etc. This is good branding at its highest.
I also really liked the tongue-in-cheek language that’s used to market the company. To the left is one of the top trump cards from one of the boxes used..who would ever directly use the term ‘political correctness’ as a company these days?
What makes me laugh is when I come to the instruction booklet-and the emphasis placed on the greatness of cheese! (But you’ll have to subscribe to see for yourself, what I mean…)
And you get your very own cheese Postie stamp/sticker. Needless to say, at this point, I am a very happy blogger.
(By the way, what do you think about these photos? I’m awful at taking them and keeping the camera still,but I’ve edited these a little bit. Gotta bring out the cheesy goodness!)
The Toastie Itself.
(I think it may be possible that I’ve spotted a slight design flaw…) When making the Toastie, I advise you to use a plate. (I hadn’t, in an attempt to get a more artistic shot, and because I was being lazy…) Otherwise, it may mess up your Toastie. And who would want that!?
The toasting bag seemed to be a little too small. As a desperate guide for myself, I tore a little into the sides. That way, the Toastie could still fit, and was safely covered.
But when I heard sizzling, I had to take it out the Toaster. What had essentially happened, because I had to tear the sides, it was a little burnt, and that the middle wasn’t properly toasted. Although, then again, it may have been my own stupidity, in not assembling the whole thing properly. Who knows? But it’s probably worthwhile saying in a review.
The Toastie was still good, though. But I think another method could be used to toast it. Just for the sake of saving face!
